It's a heavy glass and sturdy. I have put cream chess,for my bagels and left it on the counter to soften up, during the day. Also butter fits perfectly. 2 cubes.

Had a normal butter dish where the butter sat on the flat part and with this one it sits down inside of the bowl part and this is a wonderful thing. My other dish was always getting butter around the edges and on the outside of it and this one stays clean all around the outside, I love it! It holds 2 sticks of butter, so there's plenty of soft butter when needed. I wrote heavy duty because it is however, if dropped it will break. Very cute piece.
