Comments about Electric Letter Opener:
It does a good job at first with small(not thick) envelopes. Then the blade dulls and sometimes takes a few tries before it opens the whole letter
Bottom LineYes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Midrange Shopper
I initially purchased this for home use, and decided I get much more mail at my office, so I'm using it everyday. I was skeptical at first that it would work but was pleasantly surprised. Make sure the contents have settled in the bottom of the envelope before slicing through the top of the envelope. Just hold the letter and let it glide through the cutter. Works very well!
I purchased 6 of these letter openers - several were Christmas gifts and kept two for myself (so I'd have one as a back-up). I found it amazing that the items do not come with any specific directions/suggestions as to how use the opener. The picture on the internet shows holding the letter upright and letting it run through the cutters. I have found that it is better to lay the opener on the horizontal, tap the envelop so that the contents "fall" toward the bottom of the envolop, and then let the letter feed through the cutters. By tapping the envelop one can be fairly certain that the cutter disks will not slice through the contents of the envelop. I have been most pleased with this purchase and how smoothly it operates.

After 10 uses it would not cut the paper.I could see that the two wheels were not touching. This doesn't allow the wheels to act as a can opener.Bad constuction.

Didn't work for me
I get alot of mail and I open everything first and then read it. Hopping this would ease the chore of opening letters I put the BATTRIES in and got a letter and ran it threw the machine and nothing Tryed over and over and it would not cut the letter open sorry Walter Drake this one is a loser. Called and complained and got a refund.

Purchased one of these openers for a gift for my husband. He has found that the easiest way to open the envelop is to tap the envelop gently on a flat surface (so that the letter/bill etc) falls to the bottom of the letter) then let it slide through the opener. The picture shows the opener standing upright, however, he has found that it works best by having the opener lie flat and holding the envelope parallel to the table top. It would seem that holding the envelop as pictured would allow the paper inside to be shredded by the opener.

LOved how it worked at first. Then blade dulled.I was about to order a few for freinds an family but now want to see if there is a way to sharpen. then again the amount of use was not enough to even need it sharpened..Shame it was good.

waste of money

This little gadget is a good idea, if only it would actually work as descibed. Sometimes it MIGHT cut thru about one half of the envelope; most of the time it doesn't work at all. It is a waste of your time and money.
