They drilled a hole thru a knot in the wood and put the tighting screw in it. that cracked the wood making the item not work.
Yes they work and they are real!

The cheap plastic center adjusting nut breaks immediately preventing use of the unit. Selling this most inferior unit ruins the reputation of all involved.

I was disappointed when I saw the made in China stamped in the product. I also thought it was cedar but ordinary wood. Product works as intended.

This stretcher allowed me to 'loosen' a new pair of shoes for better comfort without the 'new' shoe tightness. Since it adjusts to different lenths and widths it was easily converted to shaping several pairs of our shoes and maintain shoes that are worn seasonally by keeping the shape of the shoe while waithing for the right occasion for wearing.

This product saved me from giving another pair of shoes to my granddaughter. I am in the process of stretching several pairs of shoes which were too stiff and not quite wide enough. This is a good investment.
Works okay, however - -

Works okay on low-quarters like loafers, etc., but I have two complaints - 1) The piece on the spreader that fits against the inside of the heel of the shoe isn't long enough to fully seat all the way down into a deep lace-up shoe like Rockports. 2) And this is a personal problem - my shoes are size 10-1/2, and I need just a little adjustment on the left shoe, but the medium spreader is maxed out in length leaving no second adjustment if the first one wasn't enough.
