what size will I receive?
Best Answer: Air ferns are dead corals from the bottom of the seas. You should remove the posting saying they are going to grow because they are not going to grow. You might want to do some research.
Air fern is a name given to this product that is composed of a species of marine animal called Sertularia argentea, also known as the "sea fir". These so-called "ferns" are dead and dried colonies of hydrozoans, colonies of marine hydroids, class Hydrozoa, phylum Cnidaria. Hydroids are related to corals and jellyfish.
These dried hydroid colonies are commonly sold as a curiosity, as a supposedly decorative "indoor plant", or as underwater decorations for aquaria in stores. They are sometimes labeled as "Neptune plants". Despite a superficial resemblance to plants, they are actually animal skeletons or shells. The dried colonies are often dyed green, but, when soaked in water, the coloring will dissolve. I cannot believe Walter Drake infers that these are live plants - they are dead coral animals AND CANNOT EVER GROW!
Thank you for your question. The air-ferns are approximately 6" tall and 7" across at its largest points. Also the ferns can grow up to 1" per year. We hope this information will be of help to you.
would it be harmful to use a glagg bolb with water in it for weight to keep it in if the water does nor touch the fern?

How big is the fern?
A shopper on May 26, 2015
Best Answer: Once it opens after sitting for a few hours, it's about 5 inches at the largest part. They last a very long time but don't put them in the sun and place them where cats and dogs can't get them.
They are maybe two or three inches long ,they are somewhat a little full , not a lot ! Almost like a small flower pot size , but they last , stay nice but if you want a large and full pot of air fern , these are not that way , you would have too order a lot of them ! (Quantity) and still get taller ones elsewhere , because they are small !! I hope this has helped you , Phyllis Arnold
Thank you for your question. The mysterious air fern will be approximately 6" tall and 7" across at the longest points once it opens up. We hope this information will be of help to you.
I purchased two of them they look nice in a four in container.
Like in the picture small but not too small
Maybe hand size or slightly larger.
It is abt 12 inches around.
How to care for air fern ?
A shopper on Dec 7, 2014
Best Answer: Occasionally dust it. That's it.
You just leave them be. They love just sitting there. It seems the more room you give them they seem to spread!!!
ii have a air fern. I have it sitting on my end table under my light for years and I don't do anything with it.
Don't leave it in direct sunlight and mist it occasionally. That's all. Enjoy.
just put in a container of your choice and do nothing.
not much care, just dust once in a while.
What size is the fern when you ship it?
Best Answer: Thank you for your question. The Fern will be approximately 6” tall and 7” across at the longest points once it opens up. We hope this information will be of help to you.
how long does it last?
A shopper on Sep 28, 2016
Best Answer: I purchased mine in November 2014 and it still looks good. I put it in my husband's "man cave"; the poor thing has gotten moved around sometimes into areas with little to no sun and it still looks good. I've never watered or misted it. My biggest problem is I try to dust it once in awhile and it seems pretty fragile in that the stems pull out of the pot so I now just lightly giggle my fingers through the stems.
I can't tell you exactly how long they last, but I can tell you I have had some for about 8 years and they are still doing fine. They do get dusty after a while and are very hard to dust. lol.
I bought my Air Ferns in April of 2015 and they're still going strong. I love them...they add such a nice touch to my bathroom and in front of my big screen tv.
After having mine for about a year and a half, it still sits in a little vase I put it in and looks just like it did when I bought it!! Great little ferns!!
Thank you for your question. These plants last forever. We hope this information will be of help to you.
Thank you,
Walter Drake
Mine is a year and a half old now and still looks exactly as it did when I bought it! Nice little ferns.
should i undo tie at bottom?
A shopper on Jul 21, 2016
Best Answer: I left mine tied as it came out of the package. I suppose it would depend on how you want to use it or display it as to whether you would want to untie the fern.
I have my Air Fern in a small pot and when it out grew small pot I put it in a bigger pot. I left it tied at the bottom. I hope this helps you.
Thank you for your question. No you should not. We hope this information will be of help to you.
I did not. Just put it in a cup and it looks great.
I didn't and they do real well in a small pot.
I don't. It does great the way it is.
how big will it get?
A shopper on Feb 28, 2016
Best Answer: It doesn't really get any bigger, than when you purchase it. Maybe a tiny bit!! I actually take mine out of it's container about every 3 mos. and fluff them up a bit!! Keeps them looking fresher! I even talk to them!! I have several of them. Just so Pretty!!
I don't think mine has grown in size from when I bought it a year and a half ago. It pretty much stays the same size as near as I can tell.
It doesn't grow. As someone else suggested, I also shake them out gently every now and then. Stays nice looking forever.
Thank you for your question. They can grow up to 1” per year. We hope this information will be of help to you.
I bought quite a few, mine never grew.
It really doesn't get any bigger.
What type of container and soil do I use ?
Best Answer: I just placed mine in a small bamboo planter with no soil. It can be placed in anything really. There's no soil or water required so it can be put into anything that will hold it upright. The base is bound with rubber bands, so the opening of the container can be pretty small also (that's why the bamboo container worked well). Hope that helped.
IF USING MULTIPLE FERNS, EITHER A SHALLOW BOWL TYPE VASE OR SOMETHING YOU CAN FILL UP WITH FOAM, PEANUTS OR EVEN WADDED PAPER BECAUSE EACH PLANT IS ONLY 4 INCHES TALL. A NICE TEA CUP OR SMALL VASE WILL WORK FOR JUST ONE PLANT
Just put the air-fern in a pretty bowl and walk away. I've had 2 of them for 2 years and they are doing great. Do not put any soil, water in the bowl. Anyone can grow these.
Any container that it will look good in, no soil. Just mist with water about once a month.
No soil required, just some stone in the bottom. I hung mine from a side-open vase.
Can this plant be used on a front porch?
A shopper on Mar 16, 2015
Best Answer: I have one and I should have done this sooner. I "googled" air fern and found out that it is NOT a plant. It is skeletal remains of some sea creature and has been dyed green. So I think you could probably put it on the moon! It will not grow-it's already dead, LOL. Joke's on us!
The plant is quite delicate. It's very tiny leaves, if they can be called leaves, are very thin and fragile. I don't think it would survive wind, rain, or sun, for very long. If it were under a patio cover, it would last a while, but I think the outdoor weather conditions would turn it into nothing but stems in a short period of time. I keep mine indoors and it has lasted for years and years. I bought more recently and I love them. They are elegant, green, and need no care at all.
It doesn't seem like its really alive. It has not changed ( i.e. grown ) since I received it 3 years ago. I would give it a try, but maybe keep it indoors in the very cold winter.
I think you could. Keep out of direct sun. I have mine inside because i don't have enough sunlight in livingroom.
can you put it in a east window where it gets the morning sun?
A shopper on Apr 2, 2017
Best Answer: Believe it or not an air fern doesn't need sunshine. I probably would not keep it in the dark. It just needs air. I have had air ferns in my house for many years. The air ferns after a very long time need to be replaced when they start look tired or they loose some of the green pieces. I put my air ferns in nice little ceramic pots and they look like a real fern. I hope this helps you.
Katherine Pohle
I think it'll survive anywhere. I had it away from direct light facing east wall and it
did ok. I recently moved it to a west/north window and it is doing ok there also.
Actually, I think it'll survive anyway as long as we have air.
think
I have put it every where and I still have it with me
Are these ferns good around pets? Safe if they decide to eat them?
Best Answer: I have cats and dogs and they have never eaten them, ferns are not that big so the usually have them in little pots up high.
Thank you for your question. We would not allow pets to eat this plant. We hope this information will be of help to you.
These ferns are artificial and do not grow just spread after taking out of package. They are not edible for pets to eat.
I see people are saying not to put in a sunny area.
What happens if the air fern is put in a sunny window ?
Best Answer: my air fern sit in my kitchen widow and it is very green and has gotten bigger, it receives sun light every day and I have not seen any brown spots on my fern
Thank you for your question. Because this item gets water from the air, being in the sun may dry it out. We hope this information will be of help to you.
How many Fern's are there in the pictured vase?
Best Answer: Thank you for your question. This item is pictured individually. Only one fern is being shown. We hope this information will be of help to you.
It's one plant in the picrute. I recommend buying a few though because everyone is going to want one. They store easily and make nice gifts.

A shopper on Sep 24, 2016
